Volunteer to help the Touhy Mobile Home Park cats
Hundreds of cats residing at Touhy Mobile Home Park need your
help!
We are happy to report that since our last posting in July
2006, we have trapped Taz (left) and had him treated at our veterinary
hospital for the wound on the side of his neck.
Both Taz and "No Ears" are doing well now.
Since we started our spay/neuter efforts in Touhy Mobile Home Park, we have
sterilized at least 50 cats, all at our own expense. We have also removed
over 60 cats & kittens from the park for adoption placement. Our efforts
are ongoing, and we still need your help.
VOLUNTEER NEEDS
- In the mobile home park:
- Arrange for Owned Cats to be sterilized: call
residents who have requested spay/neuter services for their domesticated
cats, go to their home with carriers (if requested), have residents
complete Waivers, provide residents post-op instructions, label the carriers,
and return the cats to the staging area the night before surgery. Give the
following morning's transporters the Waivers, as they are required at PAWS.
Post-op: return cats to their homes, reiterate post-op instructions.
- Trap injured and ill cats: set, bait and monitor traps
until dusk, cover traps when sprung, label traps according to location, and
arrange for transport to a veterinarian.
- Deliver cat and dog food to needy residents.
- Transport cats to and/or from the PAWS Lurie Family
Spay/Neuter Clinic in Chicago (volunteers provide their own vehicles).
- Veterinarians to donate their time to perform spay/neuter
surgeries.
- Foster Home Providers to
take in the friendly stray cats and kittens we find in the park.
