What happens if I don't manage my feral colony by practicing TNR?

  • you're unwittingly contributing to the death of tens or hundreds of thousands of kittens and cats in the Chicago area

  • the feral cat population swells exponentially, making it difficult or impossible to afford to feed the cats

  • otherwise rational, animal-loving neighbors become frustrated and call the police or animal control, feeling overwhelmed by the unpleasant behaviors associated with an unmanaged colony, such as spraying and fighting

  • cruel people will employ illegal, inhumane and lethal methods to eradicate the cat population

  • kittens and adult cats alike are killed by cars, or by predators such as coyotes, foxes and dogs

  • cats and kittens will die from disease, normally treatable injuries & infections, malnutrition or starvation

  • depending on your municipality's ordinances, you could be issued one or more citations

  • condo or townhome association residents face hearing notices, which might lead to a lien on their property if found in violation of anti-feeding by-laws

  • animal control or a private trapper could be dispatched to trap the cats -- don't believe their "happy ending" stories -- the cats are not going to a barn

  • trapped feral cats are ALWAYS euthanized, usually within 24 hours

  • your tax dollars continue to go toward the Chicago area average of $75 to euthanize each feral cat, just for the euthanasia -- not including staff time, animal control facilities, equipment, etc.

We have seen these things happen countless times, and don't want you to suffer the same agony.  Your feral cats are depending on you to be strong for them, and do the right thing -- TNR!
