Trapping FAQs
How soon after surgery should I release the cat? It depends on the circumstances & the weather, but generally speaking:
Confining a feral cat for longer periods can be detrimental to the cat's mental, and therefore physical, well-being. We have been advised by veterinarians & seasoned veterinary technicians that once a cat has urinated, defecated, eaten and had water, they're ready to be released. Check for signs of ruptured sutures or other trauma before releasing cats. If you're in doubt, contact your veterinary hospital for direction. Be sure that your ferals get a hearty, nutritious meal with plenty of fluids before you release them, since they may not come back for a few days.
