What happens if I trap my neighbor's cat?

First of all, you'll want to alert your neighbors to the fact that you'll be trapping.  Encourage them to keep their cats inside.  But, if you happen to trap a neighbor's cat which is not sterilized, you will need to decide whether to spay/neuter him with the others. 

We are aware of people who, tired of seeing kittens born outside to a neighbor's cat, simply have her spayed with the rest.  Of course, you are subjecting yourself to an angry and resentful response and possibly threats of a lawsuit.  To our knowledge, no one in the Chicagoland area has actually ever filed suit against someone for having the owner's cat sterilized and vaccinated.  Perhaps it is because going to court costs hundreds of dollars, with or without an attorney.
