People and Animals
in Community Together (PACT) Humane Society is a no-kill,
all volunteer, not-for-profit animal shelter and educational organization. We were
established in April of 2000 in Downers Grove, Illinois:
- Incorporated with the Illinois Secretary of
State as a non-profit corporation
- Tax exempt organization [501(c)(3)] with the
Internal Revenue Service
- Licensed with the Illinois Department of
Agriculture
- Approved as a PETsMART Charity
- Approved as a PETCO Charity
We rescue cats from many animal
control facilities in Illinois, including:
- Northwest suburbs: Schaumburg,
Streamwood, Barrington Hills, Hoffman Estates, Rolling Meadows, Palatine
- Niles Animal Control
- Vermillion County
- Aurora Animal Control & Fox Valley Animal
Welfare League
- Champaign County Animal Control
- Chicago Animal Control
- DeKalb County
- Grundy County
- Rock Island County Animal Care & Control
Additionally...
- We have adopted over 2,900 cats and dogs
- We are no-kill, only euthanizing animals in advanced stages
of untreatable illness, where there is no quality of life or hope of
recovery.
- We have rescued thousands of animals from animal control
facilities where they would have been euthanized within a matter of days
- We rescue older animals and "less-than-perfect" ones, such
as cats with FIV, diabetes, and cats missing tails, eyes or legs
- We are fiscally responsible, with 88-90% of
our revenue going toward veterinary care
PACT has over 100 volunteers and a management team of
17
people, including an attorney, engineers, real estate
professionals, college
students, a researcher, and a marketing executive. PACT is
run by Cherie Travis and Renea Burman.
PACT volunteers serve in many different
capacities including daily animal care providers (cleaning and
socialization), adoption counselors, management team members, program
coordinators, webmasters, humane educators, and advisors.
PACT does not have its own facility space. Instead we operate out of the
PETsMART Adoption Centers in the Darien, Schaumburg/Woodfield
and
Schaumburg/Barrington Road, Illinois stores. Because of our limited space, some animals live in foster homes until space
or adoption opportunities become available.
