Who would take advantage of a humane society?

PACT's Stinky Litter Box Award Winner:  Kristy Skillrud,
Senior Veterinary Technician, Schaumburg, IL

Ms. Skillrud, in her capacity as Senior Vet Tech at one of the veterinary hospitals that treats our cats in Schaumburg, IL, took home 4 stray kittens from to bottle feed.   When the kittens were old enough for procedures, PACT provided for the works -- sterilization surgery, microchipping, vaccinations, blood testing, dewormers, etc.   In mid-December 2007, when we asked Ms. Skillrud to return her foster cats to us for adoption placement, she stated that she wanted to adopt them.   However, to date, she has neither adopted nor returned them.

PACT Humane Society is a not-for-profit, charitable, all-volunteer organization with a very small budget. Our adoption fee of $100 per cat barely covers the extensive procedures we provide.  An employee estimated that the same procedures would cost about $500 per kitten at their hospital at regular prices, totaling $2,000.00.  Ms. Skillrud refuses to pay even our bargain adoption fee of $100 per cat.  Her failure to do the right thing takes away from our ability to provide procedures for the homeless and sick stray animals we rescue.

On Monday, January 28, 2008, Ms. Skillrud told a police officer that she sent PACT a check for $400 via FedEx, but PACT has yet to receive payment.

Everyone who adopts from PACT -- from our management team members to our newest volunteers, our veterinarians, and members of the public -- pays the adoption fee without exception, so that we can continue our charitable mission.  Some adopters even give a donation on top of the adoption fee to help us to save more animals.  We find it very disappointing that an employee of one of our veterinary hospitals feels she is exempt from paying an adoption fee or simply returning our cats.
