Hello, my name is Storm and I am a male short-haired grey
kitty born October 10, 2006. I am neutered and have all of my claws.
I was living in a feral cat colony when one day, I was
rescued with four other cats to be neutered and returned. But, after
surgery, they discovered I was an adoptable kitty. That is how I came to
PACT Humane Society for help finding a good home.
I had a large wound on my neck which was cleaned up and
has since healed. That is how they think I contracted FIV+. I do not require
any special diet or medication to live a healthy life. You can read more
about it at the end of my story.
I am a friendly, happy go lucky kitty who only wants
someone to love me. I like to be petted and to play kitty games. Running,
jumping on stuff and napping are my favorite pastimes.
Why not think about adopting me to add to your family? I
would make a great addition and make everyone happy!
If you are interested in meeting me, please email
volunteer-schaumburg@pacthumanesociety.org. |
All of our FIV+ cats are:

What you should know about Feline
Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV):
-
FIV can only be carried by felines (cats). It cannot be spread to
other species such as humans or dogs.
-
FIV is NOT a death sentence. Many FIV+ cats can live many years
without becoming symptomatic / ill (same as any other cat). -
Unlike the Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV),
FIV is not transmitted between cats through casual contact, such as sharing
food bowls, grooming, litterboxes, or living in the same area.
-
FIV is primarily transmitted to
other cats through blood transfusions and vicious, penetrating bite wounds.
Bites of this nature are very rare and are most common amongst intact (not
neutered) outdoor tom cats.
-
FIV-positive cats can co-exist with
FIV-negative cats, provided the home is stable, calm, and the cats are
friendly with each other. Proper integration is critical, as well as
an honest assessment of the cats' personalities. -
The most important things an
adopter can do is keep the cat indoors in a clean, low-stress environment,
and feed the cat a high-quality food.
-
FIV+ cats' health has to be
monitored, and any sign of illness needs to be treated by a vet immediately
(same as any other cat).
-
FIV+ cats need to be kept separate from cats and
other animals who are sick.
-
Unfortunately, any cat for adoption anywhere might
have a disorder or undetected disease that might lead to a premature death.
An FIV- result does not guarantee a long life, and an FIV+ result does not
guarantee a short one.

No-kill FIV & FeLV Cat Sanctuaries
(These organizations are not affiliated with
PACT Humane Society. Sanctuaries typically do not adopt out animals.
Please check with each organization regarding their policies before deciding
to place a cat there to insure their policies meet with your
hopes/expectations.)
