Our FIV+ cats available for adoption

My name is Squiggley Quigley. I'm called this name because I am always rolling around on the floor. I also like to give strong head butts to be sure you are paying attention. I would like to find my forever home soon. I have special needs, so I’m looking for a very special person who has no other cats.  I am fabulous with cat-friendly dogs.  I’m spayed, microchipped, and current on all my shots.

All of our FIV+ cats are:

  • spayed or neutered

  • current on vaccinations

  • housetrained

  • socialized

  • asymptomatic (healthy, not showing symptoms of illness)

  • FeLV-negative

What you should know about Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV):

  1. FIV can only be carried by felines (cats).  It cannot be spread to other species such as humans or dogs.

  2. FIV is NOT a death sentence.  Many FIV+ cats can live many years without becoming symptomatic / ill (same as any other cat).

  3. Unlike the Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV), FIV is not transmitted between cats through casual contact, such as sharing food bowls, grooming, litterboxes, or living in the same area.

  4. FIV is primarily transmitted to other cats through blood transfusions and vicious, penetrating bite wounds.  Bites of this nature are very rare and are most common amongst intact (not neutered) outdoor tom cats.

  5. FIV-positive cats can co-exist with FIV-negative cats, provided the home is stable, calm, and the cats are friendly with each other.  Proper integration is critical, as well as an honest assessment of the cats' personalities.

  6. The most important things an adopter can do is keep the cat indoors in a clean, low-stress environment, and feed the cat a high-quality food.

  7. FIV+ cats' health has to be monitored, and any sign of illness needs to be treated by a vet immediately (same as any other cat).

  8. FIV+ cats need to be kept separate from cats and other animals who are sick.

  9. Unfortunately, any cat for adoption anywhere might have a disorder or undetected disease that might lead to a premature death.   An FIV- result does not guarantee a long life, and an FIV+ result does not guarantee a short one.

Stop by to see our cats available at our PETsMART adoption centers, or contact our Feline Foster Care Coordinator to arrange an appointment with a cat in foster care.

Some of our FIV+ Adoptions

Tigger is a laid back, loving kitty. He much enjoys being pet and scratched under the chin. He was found outside by one of our volunteers in her backyard.
Mindy is very playful, energetic and independent.   She likes to be near people, especially at night to cuddle next to them, but she's not a lap cat by day.  Mindy does not like other cats.  Evander is a 10-year old gentle cuddle bug, who loves people and warm laps. He is affectionate, talkative, and likes to be brushed. He also does not mind wearing costumes!

Garth, Male, 7 years old.   Alpha cat, very friendly with people.

Bubba is a hunk of burnin' love.  He is an unusually affectionate cat who has never met a stranger.  He is one of our best cats ever.  Must see!
