Hi, I am Buttercup, a female short-haired calico kitty born November, 2004. I am spayed and have all of my claws.

I had a family once, but when my dad lost his job, they could not keep me anymore. We all cried on that day, but sometimes bad things happen to nice people. That is how I came to PACT Humane Society to help me find a new family. I sure hope this one is forever!

As you can see by my picture, I am pretty adorable. Not only am I nice to look at, I am just as nice on the inside. I am very sweet, easy-going and gentle. I really like being with people. I like being petted and brushed by them. I also like talking to them. My voice is a little different than other cats', though. I think it's much cuter :) You really have to hear it.

I do have FIV+, but not to worry, I am perfectly healthy and happy! You can read more about it at the end of my story. I hope it doesn't stop you from wanting me. I have already had a tough time in my life, so please don't let this keep you from loving me!

More on my FIV+ status: I tested positive for the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), which means my immune system is weaker than most. I am 'asymptomatic' -- not showing signs of the illness. Many FIV+ cats can live long normal lives. Being kept indoors in a low stress environment, and giving me a nutritious diet will help to keep me healthy.

FIV only affects felines - it cannot be spread to people, dogs or animals besides cats. It is spread between cats via deep, vicious bite wounds - the kind commonly inflicted between free-roaming male tomcats fighting for territory, not through casual contact such as grooming or sharing food/water bowls.

FIV+ cats can safely live with FIV-negative ones, provided the chemistry is right between the cats. They can even play wrestle with each other! Come in to speak with a PACT Adoption Counselor if you are considering adopting an FIV+ cat into your FIV-negative household.
